A short service of Daily Prayer for Tuesday of Easter Week, 14 April 2020

Preparation

O God, make speed to save us.
O Lord, make haste to help us.

If I climb up to heaven, you are there;
if I make the grave my bed, you are there also.

Praise

God of glory,
by the raising of your Son
you have broken the chains of death and hell:
fill your Church with faith and hope;
for a new day has dawned
and the way to life stands open
in our Saviour Jesus Christ.
Amen.

Psalm 34:4–5, 18–22

For the word of the Lord is true
and all his works are sure.

He loves righteousness and justice;
the earth is full of the loving-kindness of the Lord.

Behold, the eye of the Lord is upon those who fear him,
on those who wait in hope for his steadfast love,
To deliver their soul from death
and to feed them in time of famine.

Our soul waits longingly for the Lord;
he is our help and our shield.

Indeed, our heart rejoices in him;
in his holy name have we put our trust.

Let your loving-kindness, O Lord, be upon us,
as we have set our hope on you.

Glory to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit;
as it was in the beginning is now and shall be for ever. Amen.

Reading

But Mary stood weeping outside the tomb. As she wept, she bent over to look into the tomb; and she saw two angels in white, sitting where the body of Jesus had been lying, one at the head and the other at the feet. They said to her, ‘Woman, why are you weeping?’ She said to them, ‘They have taken away my Lord, and I do not know where they have laid him.’ When she had said this, she turned round and saw Jesus standing there, but she did not know that it was Jesus. Jesus said to her, ‘Woman, why are you weeping? For whom are you looking?’ Supposing him to be the gardener, she said to him, ‘Sir, if you have carried him away, tell me where you have laid him, and I will take him away.’ Jesus said to her, ‘Mary!’ She turned and said to him in Hebrew, ‘Rabbouni!’ (which means Teacher). Jesus said to her, ‘Do not hold on to me, because I have not yet ascended to the Father. But go to my brothers and say to them, “I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.” ’ Mary Magdalene went and announced to the disciples, ‘I have seen the Lord’; and she told them that he had said these things to her.

This is the word of the Lord.

Prayers

In the power of the Resurrection, let us pray to the Lord.

Give grace to the Church to be a faithful witness to the Resurrection of her Master. Open our eyes to recognize him in all the ways in which he comes to us, and help us to make him known to many.

Spread the peace and joy of the first Easter morning to heal the disputes of the world. Guide into truth all who are seeking assurance and do not know for whom they seek.

Help us to see the love of Christ in family, friends and neighbours. Bless those who serve and care for others in our community.

We pray for the sick in body and mind, that they may feel the healing power of Christ. Comfort with the assurance of life hereafter all who are bereaved.

May those who have departed this life enter into eternal life through the Resurrection of the Lord. Keep us firm in that hope until we too are called to be with him.

We pray through our risen and life-giving Saviour.

Christ yesterday and today,
the beginning and the end,
Alpha and Omega,
all time belongs to you,
and all ages;
to you be glory and power
through every age and for ever.
Amen.

Gathering our prayers and praises into one,
let us pray with confidence as our Saviour has taught us

Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name;
thy kingdom come;
thy will be done;
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation;
but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom,
the power, and the glory
for ever and ever.
Amen.

The Conclusion

May the risen Christ give us his peace.
