Prayer for Saturday 26 February 2022

Listen to a service of Prayer for 26 February 2022 (2 before Lent; DEL Week 7: Saturday)

O Lord, open our lips
and our mouth shall proclaim your praise.

Almighty God,
give us reverence for all creation
and respect for every person,
that we may mirror your likeness
in Jesus Christ our Lord.

Psalm 141.1-4

O Lord, I call to you; come to me quickly;
hear my voice when I cry to you.

Let my prayer rise before you as incense,
the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice.

Set a watch before my mouth, O Lord,
and guard the door of my lips;

Let not my heart incline to any evil thing;
let me not be occupied in wickedness with evildoers,
nor taste the pleasures of their table.

Glory to the Father and to the Son
and to the Holy Spirit;
as it was in the beginning, is now
and shall be for ever. Amen.

Mark 10.13-16

People were bringing little children to him in order that he might touch them; and the disciples spoke sternly to them. But when Jesus saw this, he was indignant and said to them, ‘Let the little children come to me; do not stop them; for it is to such as these that the kingdom of God belongs. Truly I tell you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God as a little child will never enter it.’ And he took them up in his arms, laid his hands on them, and blessed them.

Prayers of intercession

For peace in the Church and peace among all people, let us pray to the Lord.

Give to the Church the innocence of children and the wisdom of experience. Guide and strengthen her ministers as they work for the coming of your kingdom.

Bless and keep all children. May they grow in health of mind and body, learning to live in the way of love and faith. Grant them the loving care that will support them into happy and secure lives.

As we give thanks for our families, we pray that we may never lose our love for one another. Bless the homes throughout this community. Guide the teachers and all who work with children.

Have mercy on those whose marriages are broken or under great strain. Grant healing in the restoration of love that has been lost. Tenderly comfort the children of broken homes.

We give thanks for the departed who have been brought to glory by the power of Christ. Grant them rest and peace in the family of heaven where all are for ever one in him.

We offer our prayers as children of Christ, the protector of all who come to him.

Prayer for the week

Almighty God, the fountain of all wisdom,
you know our needs before we ask,
and our ignorance in asking:
have compassion on our weakness,
and give us those things
which for our unworthiness we dare not,
and for our blindness we cannot ask,
for the sake of your Son Jesus Christ our Lord.

The Lord’s Prayer

Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name;
thy kingdom come;
thy will be done;
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation;
but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom,
the power and the glory,
for ever and ever. Amen.

The Grace

The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ,
and the love of God,
and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit,
be with us all evermore. Amen.
