Preparation
O Lord, open our lips
and our mouth shall proclaim your praise.
The Collect for Trinity 14
Merciful God,
your Son came to save us
and bore our sins on the cross:
may we trust in your mercy
and know your love,
rejoicing in the righteousness
that is ours through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.
Psalm 100
O be joyful in the Lord, all the earth;
serve the Lord with gladness
and come before his presence with a song.
Know that the Lord is God;
it is he that has made us and we are his;
we are his people and the sheep of his pasture.
Enter his gates with thanksgiving
and his courts with praise;
give thanks to him and bless his name.
For the Lord is gracious; his steadfast love is everlasting,
and his faithfulness endures from generation to generation.
Glory to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit;
as it was in the beginning, is now and shall be for ever. Amen.
Reading: Luke 7.11-17
Jesus went to a town called Nain, and his disciples and a large crowd went with him. As he approached the gate of the town, a man who had died was being carried out. He was his mother’s only son, and she was a widow; and with her was a large crowd from the town. When the Lord saw her, he had compassion for her and said to her, ‘Do not weep.’ Then he came forward and touched the bier, and the bearers stood still. And he said, ‘Young man, I say to you, rise!’ The dead man sat up and began to speak, and Jesus gave him to his mother. Fear seized all of them; and they glorified God, saying, ‘A great prophet has risen among us!’ and ‘God has looked favourably on his people!’ This word about him spread throughout Judea and all the surrounding country.
Luke 7.11-17
This is the word of the Lord.
Prayers of Intercession
Let us pray to God for the needs of the Church and the world.
Guide and strengthen the Church to live the new life of the gospel. Give grace to her ministers to serve in love and humility, and faithfully to preach the word of God.
Hear our prayers for the people of the world in the trials and sorrows of their daily lives. Heal the divisions which tear nations and races asunder. Grant that wisdom and compassion shall guide all who are in authority.
We pray for our families, friends and neighbours. Protect them from harm, guide them in temptation and comfort them in trouble. We pray for the wellbeing of all who live and work in this community.
Have mercy on all who mourn, the widows and widowers, the orphans, parents who have lost children. Bless them with the healing touch of love and the hope of resurrection.
Receive into rest and peace the souls of those who have died to this world and risen to new life. Keep us firm in faith, that we may be brought at last into the fellowship of the redeemed.
We pray in the name of Christ, the power of resurrection to eternal life.
Prayer for the week
Into the hands of your love and mercy, O God our Father,
we commit our lives this day:
our work and the tasks that await us;
our homes and the members of our families;
our loved ones and especially those in need.
Give to us your guidance, your strength and
your protection, according to our needs
and throughout this and every day
keep us abiding in your love;
through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
The Lord’s Prayer
Let us pray with confidence as our Saviour has taught us
Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name;
thy kingdom come;
thy will be done;
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation;
but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom,
the power and the glory,
for ever and ever. Amen.
The Grace
The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ,
and the love of God,
and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit,
be with us all evermore. Amen.
