Listen to or read a service of Prayer for Tuesday 7 July 2020, the Tuesday after the Fourth Sunday of Trinity.
O Lord, open our lips
and our mouth shall proclaim your praise.
by the obedience of Jesus
you brought salvation to our wayward world:
draw us into harmony with your will,
that we may find all things restored in him,
our Saviour Jesus Christ.
The Lord is full of compassion and mercy,
slow to anger and of great kindness.
He will not always accuse us,
neither will he keep his anger for ever.
He has not dealt with us according to our sins,
nor rewarded us according to our wickedness.
For as the heavens are high above the earth,
so great is his mercy upon those who fear him.
As far as the east is from the west,
so far has he set our sins from us.
Glory to the Father and to the Son
and to the Holy Spirit;
as it was in the beginning, is now
and shall be for ever. Amen.
A demoniac who was mute was brought to him. And when the demon had been cast out, the one who had been mute spoke; and the crowds were amazed and said, ‘Never has anything like this been seen in Israel.’ But the Pharisees said, ‘By the ruler of the demons he casts out the demons.’
Then Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, and proclaiming the good news of the kingdom, and curing every disease and every sickness. When he saw the crowds, he had compassion for them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. Then he said to his disciples, ‘The harvest is plentiful, but the labourers are few; therefore ask the Lord of the harvest to send out labourers into his harvest.’Matthew 9.32-end
This is the word of the Lord.
Gracious God, fountain of all wisdom,
we pray for all Christian people;
for Bishops David, Nicholas and Christopher, for all Christian leaders,
and for those who teach and guard the faith.
May the word of Christ dwell richly in our hearts,
and knit us together in the bond of your love.
We pray for the leaders of the nations,
and for those in authority under them.
Give then the gift of your wisdom,
and a right discernment in all things.
We pray for our community;
Speak your word of peace in our midst,
and help us to serve one another as Christ has served us.
We pray for those bowed down with grief, fear or sickness.
May your living Word bring comfort and healing to all those in need.
We give thanks for all those who have died in the faith of Christ,
and for those whose faith was known to you alone;
we rejoice that they now rest in the true peace of your nearer presence.
Lord of life, hear our prayer,
and make us one in heart and mind
to serve you with joy for ever. Amen.
Into the hands of your love and mercy,
O God our Father,
we commit our lives this day:
the tasks that await us;
our homes and the members of our families;
our loved ones, and especially those in need.
Give to us your guidance, your strength,
and your protection, according to our needs,
and throughout this day
keep us abiding in your love;
through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Let us pray with confidence as our Saviour has taught us
Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name;
thy kingdom come;
thy will be done;
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation;
but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom,
the power and the glory,
for ever and ever. Amen.
The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God,
and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit,
be with us all evermore. Amen.
